Sean Hendricks from Autodesk caught up with Adam Watkins from Pixomondo, at Siggraph 2013, in this extensive interview discussing the Studio’s contribution for the making of Director J.J. Abrams’ second installment in rejuvenated Star Trek Series.

Over the 40 minute exchange Adam talks about their choice of software and why 3DSMax is at the core of their pipeline. He goes ahead to show us their VFX Reel for the film and talks about their various offices all over the world incluind the number of Artists they have working for them and the huge number of shots they’ve been delivering for major Hollywood Projects, the challenges of making the movie and working with the visionary director, how they delivered the IMAX and Stereo 3D shots. Then he discusses the Primary Sequences they worked on starting with the Star fleet HQ to Enterprise Roly Poly to Warp Core Restore to the extraordinary Kronos Sequence to the various Set Pieces to the K’normian Trade Vessel and the Klingon Fighter.
